Circulator Pump
Why is my forced hot water system and heating, when the circulation pump is not running?
I have a forced hot - water heating system with three areas, first floor, second floor, and the water tank. After a while 'maintenance on the system, the second floor is steadily warming, even if the thermostat is turned off. I checked the tension on the circulation pump and is equal to zero, so that the pump is not running. It appears that it acts as a system of gravity-fed. There are manual valves on the system, but the only things in loops that are controlled by thermostats are circulation pumps. If pumps act as valves, when not pumping? That was my guess so I replaced the pump, but my logs are still warm. If the pump does not act as a valve, which is supposed to prevent hot water from moving through the system when the pumps are not running? I need some HVAC bases here. Thank you!
It appears that your flow control valve is locked! The circulation pumps are not acting as a valve. you said you had to maintain. the person who could do maintenance have turned the lever on the flow control valve accidentally causing the gravity feed. If the lever does not have access TAP on it with a hammer sometimes causes rust, keep the valve open. I would like to tap in the first instance is, if you are not sure if the valve is turned on or not.
