MIL-STD-130 L is the most basic element of identification marking standard by which the marking for the different products may be developed during design activities. The Department of Defense uses MIL-STD-130 L as a standard rule mainly for the purchase of military equipment. In addition, MIL-STD-130 L is also used by other government agencies to conduct similar activities. In fact, MIL-STD-130 L standard was used extensively in the non-government for the development of sectors company specific marking guidance for their items. MIL-STD-130 L is the latest edition (revision L) integrates and implements the DoD unique identification (UID) policy issued 29th July, 2003. MIL-STD-130 N:
MIL-STD-130 N is the latest version of MIL-STD-130 (with version N) which was released December 17, 2007. The change does not affect the interpretation of different UID requirements, as the encoding of tags, validation and verification. The new MIL-STD-130 N standard defines Label as "An item marked with the identification of another element Information and affixed to another element. A mark may be similar or any material other than the point at which it is affixed. "Essentially this means that a label (data plate, name plate, ID plate, etc.) can now be made of a metallic or non-metallic material. In addition, the labels may be identified by marking any appropriate means. According to the MIL-STD-130 N, the UID will be limited to 50 characters only.
The new UID standard MIL-STD-130 N has also amended Validation of the definition as follows: "The confirmation by examination and provisions of objective evidence that the requirements for a specific intended use have been met; that all requirements were implemented correctly and completely and are due to system requirements. "
In addition, the MIL-STD-130 Test N defined as follows: "The confirmation by examination and provisions of objective evidence, that the element of identification requirements specified in this standard and related contracts, have been fulfilled. "
These sections are extremely critical because it put the onus on the contractor to be able to demonstrate the UID compliant labeling the requirements of the rule.
