Desoldering Iron

EMG, Inc first started manufacturing guitar pickups back in 1976, known as EMG pickups. Over the years gained a reputation for quality, clear sound pickup used by many professional artists. ESP guitars and Jackson guitars currently use EMG pickups as standard pickup design. Their high efficiency is preferred by hard rock and heavy pickup metal guitarists because of higher output gain than most lower output pickups. Some of the bands and artists who currently endorse EMG pickups are Tom Morrell, Zakk Wylde, Stephen Carpenter, Metallica and Slayer.

If you are interested in a model of signature EMG pickups and the most common are the model Kerry King of Signautre, Set Kirk Hammett, Zakk Wylde Model, and Afterburner. The signature patterns have been established for the specific artists exact configuration used for live and studio action. For example, the model Kerry King signature comes with a PA2 (20dB gain booster) with a combination of EMG-81 and EMG-85 pickup.

The most common are the pickup EMG EMG 81 and 85. The EMG 81 is usually considered as the guidance of the pick-up and is more commonly used in the bridge position, while the EMG 85 is used mainly as a rhythm pickup more used to the position of the neck.

I personally have had great success with the use EMG pickups in a Gibson Les Paul and 7 string ESP guitar especially if they're heavy sound of music. The clarity, the tone deeper, and added that profit is what makes the pickup more suitable. One bad thing about the EMG active pickups is the need for a 9-volt battery, but it is not much of a problem because the battery lasts for a long period of time. You only need to make sure you replace the battery at least once every 6 months due to loss of tone longer.

The installation of a set of EMG pickups is quite easy depending on the type of guitar you have. With the right tools, I managed to install a set of Zakk Wylde and custom EMG81 EMG85 pickup in a Gibson Les Paul, in less than an hour. Make sure you have a basic understanding on how to weld. The basic welding tools you need are low-heat welding, with iron, welding, flow, and a sponge bagnata desoldering tool. As long as the right to follow the pattern instructions for your type of guitar you should not have problems.
