Smoke detector and oil burner safety?
Hello friends, the smoke detector in my cellar keeps going off, 2-5 times a day, but only for one minute or less. This is not a detector of CO2 emissions. I investigate when you turn off only to be greeted with the familiar smell of the basement and a detector which promptly stops the alarm. What I mean by "family smell" is this: I have a stone base with lots of cracks and a dirt floor. I also an old oil tank and burner. The plan, as the dirt and smell of the cellar and oil. (I have a delicate sense of smell). I have already changed the batteries (not worked) and then exchanged with the detector by another floor above (obtained the same result). This tells me that the detector is not defective. I have already asked the oil company and have made an inspection of the tank and burner, and did not find any significant problems. They have done so with all the accessories have been close the door and clean the burner to fit flush. (still the problem) Of course, with a rustic basement, no one sleeps or spends time there. My bedroom is on the 1st floor and the children are the 2nd. There is no evidence of smoke or actual fire. The cellar has a good ventilation due to defects in the foundation, doors and windows. I have some questions: 1. Do you know why the detector is going off? 2nd You have been in this? What was the solution? 3rd Should I be concerned about our security? You did not mention how old is the detector. Being in a humid environment may shorten its life. You can get a good fire-x for less than $ 15. Its my guess the sensor is dirty, clogged, or simply age out. Could be exchanged for another of the same age, like most people to replace them all at the same time. They work on density, not smoke. You may have other problems, in particular the field of stone, and dirt floors. Probably when you go to investigate the silence, because you opened the basement door and leave out the problem. CO2 and methane alarms are enough economic try them first.
