We live in Australia. You arent allowed to keep guns for protection. Recently we have had in our village a home invasion with machetes and a sawn off shotgun. that people havent caught. We have an alarm system, but significant, because the use of dogs. I fear sometimes a little 'because I think that we do not have enough security if someone with a gun. We are planning to install a light sensor, but there are other suggestions to make your home safer?
Motion sensor lighting is a good start. Why can not you use your alarm system with the cats? If it is a cause for motion sensors movements can be programmed to ignore the move up to a certain size (my security system ignores my two dogs 35 pounds). A dog would help as well. Moreover, make your home uninviting to robbers, including plant spiney bushes right under the windows, do not advertise your home to bandits, leaving the curtains open or valuables out, remove the spare keys, if left outside the home (in a mat, in a fake rock). A creative idea would be to glue a false Sydney funnel web for all window. This should make it think twice of going this way.
