Ok, normally you use your laptop and everything is working well. Then one day you turn on your laptop and you are not sure, is that either I'm still asleep? The screen on my laptop does not work. What do I do now. Well, the good news is that it could be worse. Now to go about solving the problem there are some things to be determined to see what is the problem.

The first thing I would advise you to do is check your laptop with an external monitor to make sure it is not the chip video that has gone bad. Then, connect the laptop to an external monitor and see if you get a picture (you may need to press the fn and one of F1, F2, F3 ... etc keys together to pass the output to an external monitor, if you get a picture on the external monitor that you know is not the motherboard, (whew, it was already to get scared). If you do not get a picture on the external monitor to make sure that it is connected correctly and that you pressed the buttons for the output signal going to the external monitor. If you are sure you've done all the steps correctly, then turn off the computer and try to press on the keyboard while powering up the laptop and see if you get an image. Sometimes, if a computer has a loose connection between the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) of the motherboard and it will result in no video, or flaky video, then try pressing on the keyboard, while the power and try to see if you see the video. If you get a video output then you will know that this is a shaky video chip and that should be fixed.

Now if you back a photo on an external monitor. Once you got a picture on the external display and decided that is not the video chip or motherboard will have to try to determine if the LCD screen or is the inverter. The inverter is a small electronic board that controls the voltage that is sent to the backlight (the light of the laptop screen) of the LCD screen. In a last act, if it is determined that the backlight that is defective, even if it is fixable requires more time and experience and then replacing the inverter, and if one is not expert is able to damage the LCD screen as well, in general, if the backlight is defective or laptop shop replace the backlight, but only one who has experience.
