How do I test the efficiency of an amplifier circuit for class A?
I need help. I built a circuit that has already been designed and now I have to test for a class. I can calculate the efficiency, but now that I have to show proof with a digital multimeter, an oscilloscope and a generator frequency. I have no idea how to use the equipment. If someone could fill me I would greatly appreciate =]
Test to determine the efficiency class is possible using the maximum power and undistorted. Basics: Use the frequency generator to make a sinusoidal test signal. Connect a load resistance (eg 8 ohm) for the amplifier output and connect the oscilloscope in this resistance. The amplifier Drive until the sine wave becomes distorted slighly (truncated peak). Determine the maximum power output, as just before it occurs. Measure the voltage using the oscilloscope (or a multimeter). Determine the voltage RMS (.707 / 2 peak to peak voltage determined by the oscilloscope). Calculate the output power through the resistance of V * V / R. Now use the multimeter to measure voltage and current the amplifier at maximum output and to determine the power (usually the output power stage only). That is V * I. Determine the relationship between the output power for power supplied, which is the efficiency as a percentage. Use efficiency to determine the class. A class A can be something as 40%, a Class B something like 70%, a Class D, maybe 90% and so on. If you want them. Another point is that the amplifier overheating in May, so whether the use of a ventilator that helps, and keep the time running at maximum to a minimum of power, allowing time to cool between tests.
